Dr J. Scott Wilson, M.D., FAPA
Dr Wilson is a graduate of East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine. He did his residency training in Psychiatry through the integrated program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University in Dayton Ohio. He completed over 7 years active-duty service with the United States Air Force, including one tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 where he served as the Executive Officer for a Combat Stress detachment. Major Wilson earned numerous citations during his service including the Army Commendation and Air Force Meritorious service medals.
Since separating from the military and relocating to the Nashville area Dr Wilson has held leadership positions with some of the largest private behavioral health organizations in the state, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has extensive experience managing behavioral health issues across the adolescent adult and geriatric spectrums on both inpatient and outpatient basis. He also has extensive experience in the management of substance use disorders and has been committed to combatting the opioid epidemic for the past 20 years.
Dr Wilson has held multiple clinical faculty positions including the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Vanderbilt University and Lincoln Memorial University. He is Board Certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has been awarded the honorary designation Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He had recently completed requirements for Board Certification in Addiction Medicine as well.
Dr Wilson firmly supports measures targeting social injustices and the growing disparities in care. He also supports efforts toward the preservation of individual and family autonomy, and seeks to use his expertise to advocate for those unduly burdened by government and third party overreach and abuse. He is working to reduce misinformation, bias and error regarding mental health considerations in the community and the local court systems. He also remains committed to improving access to mental health services for veterans by offering thoughtful, expert evaluation and advocacy in lieu of the profiteering and other unscrupulous actions of many attorneys and so called ‘claim sharks’.
